Why to chose Agriculture as a Career in 2021

Agriculture is considered the backbone of any nation. In India, around 50-60% workforce involved only in Agriculture. Agriculture practices seem to be very easy because it is being practiced since the beginning of human civilization but at the same time, the process of agriculture involves lots of concepts, scientific management, skills, and technical know-how. Here comes the importance of agriculture graduates. They learn agriculture from the scratch and how to apply the knowledge gained over years in the field of agriculture. They are being trained during their graduation courses about the art, science, and commerce behind agriculture and how to apply these in the real world.

Ten years back I can recall people even didn’t aware about Agriculture as a career option, all they knew is to be an Engineer or a Doctor but luckily the situation has changed over time and now students are migrating from other career option to Agriculture. In this sector, you have a wider scope to explore yourself with nature and you can able to get an idea of how you get your food from the field to your mouth. This may be quite silly to think off but if you think it deeply, you can understand the importance that if you can be a graduate in the field of agriculture and can impact even a few farmers being a role model, how much impact it can make on the whole nation.

Career options in Agriculture

As an agriculture graduate you can do so much beyond your thoughts;

  1. You can apply for any competitive examination Ex. NSC, IBPS AFO, NABARD, IFFCO, etc.
  2. You can apply for state and central government jobs Ex. AAO, AHO, AFO, ACS, ACF, RAEO, RHEO, ADA, etc.
  3. You can apply for state PSC and UPSC examinations.
  4. You can switch your career to the management sector and opt MBA from reputed universities and chose MNCs.
  5. You can be an entrepreneur and build your own high-tech modern farm and earn much more than any government employee.
  6. You can go for Masters and Doctoral programs to be an Assistant Professor or Scientist in any State and Central Agricultural University or at any ICAR research institution.

How you can get Admission to an Agricultural University?

There are more than sixty agricultural universities available in India affiliated under the umbrella of ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research). In every state there are one or more than one state agricultural university. To get admission to any agricultural university you have to have a Science education during your intermediate level i.e. 10+2. You have to appear the All India Entrance Examination for Under Graduation by ICAR every year or Common Entrance Examination for Under Graduation by different individual state and central Agricultural Universities every year.
